Mundane | Sublime
An exhibition in two halves by Drew Davies
Opening Reception: First Friday April 4th
Star Deli - 6114 Military Ave
6:00 - 8:00
This exhibition is about seeing differently.
In Mundane | Sublime, I explore how ordinary, overlooked things — whether physical fragments of nature or fleeting moments in time — can be elevated, reimagined, and reframed.
Half of the work consists of assemblage pieces made from found coral, collected while snorkeling and walking beaches. These sun-bleached fragments, shaped by time and tide, are often dismissed as debris. But isolated, arranged, and placed within a new context, their intricate textures and organic forms reveal something deeper — an inherent beauty that was always there, waiting to be noticed.
The other half of the exhibition features photographs captured during my travels: snapshots of the ignored and the easily missed. Through framing, perspective, and juxtaposition, these images challenge us to reconsider the familiar.
Together, these works invite you to pause, look closer, and find the sublime in the seemingly mundane things we too often overlook.
