Will we meet again? Mimi Yu invites viewers into an exploration of sentimentality and melancholy through her latest series of cross-disciplinary art. Inspired by the subtle interplay between the desperation of recollecting memories and acceptance, this body of work captures moments of intimacy, offering an introspection into how people try to remember friends and loved ones.

Drawing from blurry photos in her camera roll, conversations between friends and quiet corners of Nebraska, Yu’s art blends various physical forms with delicate details, creating a visual symphony that resonates with a sense of peace. Through her art, Yu seeks to create a sanctuary for connection, encouraging viewers to find their own moments of calm amidst the turbulence of modern existence.

Mimi Yu is an interdisciplinary artist based in Lincoln, Nebraska, as well as a Pre-Law student studying Art History and Sociology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She started showing work in November 2021, as part of Parrish Studios in Lincoln during First Fridays. Her work has been featured in UNL’s Undergraduate Juried Exhibition twice, and she was part of a 5-person exhibition in Tugboat Gallery in December 2023, titled “Cha Cha Cha Cha Cha”. She eventually hopes to study Intellectual Property Law and protect the creative rights of marginalized artists, while also making work as an artist.
